University Professor Commits Suicide In Nigeria

Prof. Frank Onyezili, a senior lecturer with the Biological Sciences Department of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has committed suicide. Sources close to the professor told newsmen, on Wednesday in Makurdi that the deceased was found dead on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Mrs. Roseline Waku, the Director of Protocol and Information of the university, who confirmed the incident, however told NAN that she was not aware of why Onyezili killed himself. “The only thing I can confirm is that the professor killed himself; I don’t know why he did it,” she said. Waku hinted of reports that the deceased left a suicide note, but said that she was not privy to its contents. A top official of the university told newsmen that the the professor drank some substance suspected to be poison, after leaving a suicide note. Court Grants Fayose 50 Million Naira Bail

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted former Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, bail in the sum of N50 million. The presiding judge, Morenikeji Olatoregun, granted the bail on Wednesday, adding that he must provide two sureties who must issue a ₦50 million bond in a reputable bank, as well as possess three years of tax clearance. She also directed that the former governor must deposit his international passport with the court. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on Monday arraigned Fayose on 11 counts of alleged money laundering, amounting to ₦2.2 billion. Fayose’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, urged the court to grant his client bail, based on self-recognizance on the ground that he voluntarily submitted himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Breaking News: Army Begins 'Operation Crocodile Smile III' Exercise In Niger Delta

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the Nigerian Army says it has commenced Operation Crocodile Smile III exercise across the states of the Niger Delta to stem the tide of pipeline vandalism in the region. This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.
