Filling Stations In Anambra Go On Strike!
Rumours have been going on about filling stations going on strike in Anambra state but the stories have been confirmed.
I first noticed the queues on different filling stations on my way back from the bank earlier today and I was wondering what was going on when the driver of the Keke I boarded said that the filling stations would go on strike starting from tomorrow.
As if that wasn't enough, when I reached home, I overheard Popsy talking to someone on phone telling him/her that there's an impending strike going on. He called me shortly after and gave me #2000 to go and buy fuel saying that he wasn't sure if the filling stations would be open by tomorrow.
When I got to the filling station nearest to my house, to say that what I witnessed was a queue is an understatement, you needed to see the number of vehicles and people parked at the station waiting for their turn to buy petrol.
The funniest part of it was that none of them was buying petrol less than #1000. Some we're carrying two gallons (like me) while some had one gallon that was equivalent to my two gallons if not bigger. In fact someone bought #26,000 worth of petrol in my presence!
I was sha praying it gets too my turn before their petrol runs out. When it was finally my turn, I asked the attendant what was happening and he said they were on strike till further notice starting from tomorrow. What he couldn't tell me was the reason behind the strike as according to him it was an 'Order from Above'.
I found it difficult to ascertain the reason behind the strike considering the fact that petrol didn't increase in price.
If you're reading this and you live in Anambra, I
advice to pick up a gallon and go get yourself petrol in advance in case of necessity should EEDC disappoint.
Do keep in touch with us for more info as I'll give an update on the reason behind the strike as soon as possible.
